Najam Relief tracks Zakat separately from all other funds and uses it only for Zakat-eligible projects, in Metro Atlanta and overseas.
Zakat is 2.5% of your qualifying wealth.
Zakat is due only once your wealth meets the nisab threshold. This calculator is a general guide; for personal advice, please consult a qualified Islamic scholar.

What is Zakat?
Zakat means “to purify” and is one of Islam’s five pillars. Every eligible Muslim gives 2.5% of their qualifying wealth each year to those in need.
How is Zakat calculated?
Zakat is 2.5% of your qualifying wealth after one lunar year. Qualifying wealth can include cash and savings, investments and stocks, business inventory, rental income, and gold and silver, once your wealth meets the nisab threshold.
What is nisab?
Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth a Muslim must hold before Zakat is due. It is measured against the value of gold or silver, so it changes with market prices.
Who can receive Zakat?
The Qur’an names the categories of people eligible to receive Zakat (Surah at-Tawbah 9:60), including the poor and the needy, those in debt, and travelers in need. Najam Relief directs Zakat only to Zakat-eligible recipients.
How does Najam Relief handle my Zakat?
Najam Relief accepts Zakat donations. We track Zakat donations separately from all other funds and only use them for Zakat-eligible projects. Your Zakat can stay local through Local Zakat, or go to our appeals for hot meals, Gaza and Lebanon, which each offer a dedicated Zakat checkout. Every donation to our Emergency Appeal goes directly to the field, with a 100% Zakat policy.
What is the difference between Sadaqah and Zakat?
Sadaqah is an entirely voluntary charity, where any amount can be given at any time of year. However, Zakat is an obligatory charity due from every Muslim whose total possessions (cash, gold, silver, shares) meet or exceed the nisab threshold every year.
What is Sadaqah Jariyah, and how do I give Sadaqah?
Sadaqah Jariyah is continuous charity that keeps benefiting others and rewarding you long after you’re gone. To give Sadaqah, choose any of our current appeals or support our local programs.
This guidance is general. For personalized advice about your own Zakat, please consult a qualified Islamic scholar.
